This past week is what Winnie the Pooh would call “blustery”.

The winds have been quite strong and caused a few minor power outages, along with trees and limbs coming down. We appreciate the support from Eversource, Wilcox Tree, Old Lyme Fire Department and our Public Works Department for quickly taking care of all the emergency storm-related problems.

Road paving in the Hawks Nest Beach area is now complete. Public Works Director Ed Adanti reports that the project went smoothly, and he is pleased with the results. The paving project for the Lyme Street Firehouse began today. This will be done in two sections, front and back. We look forward to seeing the new driveway and parking lot.

Please note that the water will be turned off for the winter season this afternoon at Cross Lane Park, Hains Park and Town Woods Park. Bathrooms will remain closed until the Spring.

As I mentioned earlier in October, Resident State Trooper Matt Weber has been given a new position within the State Police organization. We will be having a reception for him at Town Hall in the Meeting Room on November 12th from 3-5PM. The public is invited to stop by to thank him for his years of service and wish him well.

After a very successful fall season the Parks and Recreation Department is now looking forward to their winter offerings. Registration for grade K-5 Youth Basketball is open (PreK is already full).

Please remember that Town Hall and the Transfer Station will be closed on Tuesday in honor of Veteran’s Day. Each year our Veterans of Foreign Wars holds a special ceremony in front of the Town Hall flagpole. This will commence at approximately 11:15AM. The public is invited to attend.

SPECIAL NOTIFICATION – We were notified this afternoon that the Department of Transportation will be doing some paving at Exit 70 on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The contractor will determine where he will begin. Signage will be placed on I-95, requiring you to detour if necessary.   Remember we have two areas where Exit 70 impacts Old Lyme – entrances and exits onto Lyme Street and Route 156.

Enjoy the fall weekend!

All my best,
Martha
