This has been a shortened work week at Town Hall, but it has been very busy with golf cart registrations, last-minute beach parking permits, and the first taxpayers arriving with their payments. We enjoy seeing so many residents in Town Hall.

Assessor Melinda Kronfeld wants you to be aware of a change that you might have noticed in the assessed value of your motor vehicle for the July 1st bill.  In 2021 the State of Connecticut passed Public Act 22-118, which changed how motor vehicles are valued. Beginning October 1, 2024 motor vehicles are no longer being assessed at Fair Market or Clean Retail value. To create uniformity across the state, all vehicles are valued based on their MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) and a standardized depreciation schedule set by the State of Connecticut’s legislative process. Yesterday, the State Library informed Town Clerk, Vicki Urbowicz and I that the Town of Old Lyme’s Historic Preservation Grant Application was approved. The funding from this grant will allow the Town Clerk’s office to complete their indexing of our land records from 1855 to present. These records will become digitized for historical preservation.

If you are looking for something to do tonight, consider one of two concerts that are being offered in the Town of Old Lyme.

  1. Come enjoy a free summer evening at the Senior Center tonight starting at 5:30PM! Ice cream will be served at 5:30PM. At 6PM the Red Light Band, which was voted the “Best Band 2024”, will begin playing. They are a 5-piece modern and classic dance party band that plays the best party music spanning five decades! This Free Live Music Series is sponsored by the Lymes’ Senior Center and will be held on the Lymes’ Senior Center Grounds at 26 Town Woods. All are welcome for this free concert series so bring your family and friends, your outdoor chairs, and your dancing shoes!
  2. Sound View will be hosting their second free outdoor concert on Hartford Avenue at the flagpole.  CONNetic Energy Band will be playing the greatest danceable rock and roll classics from 7:00PM – 8:30PM.
The Town Hall staff wishes you all a wonderful 4thof July weekend. Enjoy the time with family and friends!

All my best,
Martha
