Heat Wave

I hope that you have all had a wonderful week. This appears to be the first weekend where the weather will cooperate for outdoor activities. Please note that the National Weather Service is forecasting a multi-day heat wave starting on Sunday, June 22, and continuing at least through Wednesday, June 25. In addition to 90+ degree temperatures, the heat index could range from 100-105 degrees from Monday through Wednesday. This will approach the excessive heat warning criteria, which is 105 degrees. As a result of this forecast, the Governor has activated the extreme hot weather protocol from Sunday, June 22, at noon to Wednesday, June 25, at 8 pm.

Road & Public Safety

The Old Lyme Road and Public Safety Committee has been hard at work since they began in August 2024. Their primary focus is to “discuss public safety concerns on the public roadways in Old Lyme and make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen.”

In response to local complaints, and a statewide concern over vehicle speeding and serious traffic accidents, they have designed a survey for Old Lyme residents. This allows you to share your thoughts on whether you believe there are safety issues on our local roads, and what may be done to make travel safer.

The Road and Public Safety Committee hopes to hear from Old Lyme’s community. Everyone 18 years and older is asked to take a short, anonymous survey. People may also write to the committee with specific concerns or questions. The survey may be found at the following web address:

Golf Cart Inspections

Golf cart inspections for Hawks Nest Beach area residents will be held near the Golf Cart parking lot from 8:30 - 12PM on Saturday, June 21st. Inspections should take about 10 minutes per vehicle. Once golf cart owners pass inspection, they will bring their registration and inspection form to the Town Hall where they can obtain their license plate and 2025 permit sticker. Residents will pay a $25 fee for their sticker. If you fail your initial inspection, we will provide you with information on how to notify us if you would like to schedule a new date

Golf Cart Inspections will be held for the Sound View area on Saturday, June 28th from 8:30 – 12PM. These will be done in the Sound View parking lot.

Weekend Activities

The Lyme Art Association is holding their Family Day on Saturday, June 21, from 10 am - 1 pm (rain or shine). I heard a rumor there will be some baby goats attending!

Also on Saturday, June 21st, Make Music Old Lyme will take place from 5 – 7 pm on Lyme Street. There is also a children’s concert beginning at 4 pm at LYSB. For more information, please visit the event website.

Enjoy the weekend!
Martha
