It may be chilly outside, but inside Town Hall it has been heating up with a great deal of activity.

Anita Mancini, Finance Director, and I have been busy with budget reviews and updating the data collection material that we provide to the Board of Finance. Next week, the Board of Selectmen will have two final budget reviews to meet with a few departments and commissions that could not attend our previously scheduled meetings.  Please check our agendas for those special meetings on January 27th from 12-4PM and January 30th from 7-8:30PM.

Please remember that our Annual Town Meeting is being held on Monday, January 27th at 7:30PM. We have three items on our agenda. This is also the meeting where we announce our Citizen of the Year.

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, Dave Roberge, Fire Marshall/Emergency Management Director, John Duddy, Old Lyme Fire Department 2nd Fire Chief, Katie Balocca, Executive Assistant to the Selectwoman and I attended a training at Camp Nett in Niantic. There were forty participants from various towns and cities across Connecticut. The National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center presented the course – Public Information In An All-Hazards Incident. This training covered a variety of emergency situations and stressed the importance of planning and providing timely information to the public.

Resident State Trooper Matt Weber is pleased to have a new service dog assigned to him. Viera is a licensed N.E.S.P.A.C certified State Police comfort canine. She is a lovely addition to our Old Lyme Police Department.

This week the Town of Old Lyme was nominated for The Best Small Town Arts Scene. Over the next four weeks, USA TODAY readers will be voting, once per day, until ballots close on Monday, February 17th at 11:59am EST. Readers can cast their votes for Old Lyme at https://10best.usatoday.com/awards/travel/best-small-town-arts-scene-2025/old-lyme-connecticut/  Please consider encouraging your friends to vote!

Enjoy this last full weekend in January. Spring is just 55 days away!

All my best,
Martha
