As we move into the weekend, we may experience some stormy weather. The Town of Old Lyme has been on featured on WFSB twice during the last 24 hours as we prepare for the remnants of Debby. I urge all residents take a look at our hurricane preparedness list and take steps to make any needed updates to their home as we move enter hurricane season.

I want to extend a special thank you to Sophie Pennie, our summer intern, who took on our building plan project. Sophie has been addressing all the postcards and organizing the house plans for residents to retrieve at Town Hall. Please remember that any plans not picked up by Labor Day will be shredded.

Information on the upcoming Baldwin Bridge project has been posted on the Public Work's page of the Town website for you to review. Although this project is two years away, it is always a good idea to see what the Department of Transportation (DOT) has planned for our future.

This week we received a check for $4,439 from Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency (CIRMA). CIRMA is our insurance agency and, when possible, they return equity to its members. This check will be deposited into our revenue account. We appreciate CIRMA’s dedication to the towns they service.

Yesterday, I attended Congressman Courtney’s Federal Funding Resource Fair at Eastern Connecticut State University. This provided us the opportunity to speak with the twenty-two state and federal agencies who provide grants and special opportunities to CT cities and towns. Halls Road Improvement Committee members, Edie Twining and Jane Ungemack also attended. I will be sending out the information we gathered to various boards and committees next week. Many thanks to Congressman Courtney’s office for planning this event.

Early Voting for the Republican Primary election has been taking place in Town Hall this week. Town Hall will be open for Early Voting today from 10AM-6PM and Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-6PM as well. Primary Day is Tuesday, August 13, and eligible voters may cast their ballots at Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School Gymnasium from 6AM to 8PM.

The Swan Brook Crib retention pond had new grates installed this week by Machnik Brothers Inc. These will help keep debris from clogging the stormwater drainage pipes. Many thanks to Tom Machnik and crew for installing them for the Town of Old Lyme.

A big shout out to the Old Lyme Fire Department for their creativity in trading their old Zodiac water craft for professional development for the department. Special thanks to Chief Mike McCarthy and Jared Flagg for working with our Finance Department to organize the transfer of the boat into a credit with the company who provides water training for the department.

All my best,
Martha
