The Board of Selectmen met this past Monday evening. The public comment portion of the meeting provided us with residents' concerns of speeding in town. We have scheduled a special Board of Selectmen meeting for Monday, March 25th at 2:00 pm in the afternoon to address this issue specifically. We have invited our Police Department to attend as special guests and we intend to have a discussion on how, as a town, we can make significant changes to decrease the amount of speeding in our small town. The public, as always, is invited to attend our meetings. The Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance have approved the purchase of two additional mobile solar powered speed limit signs that can be moved to various locations when needed.

The Lymes' Senior Center Building Committee will be hosting two public forums to present an update on the project. This will provide residents with information regarding the project updated costs and the need for an appropriate of an additional $880K.

  • Monday, March 25th at 6:30pm in the Old Lyme Town Hall Meeting Room
  • Monday, March 27 at 6:30pm in the Lyme Consolidated School Gymnasium

Please come and hear the factual information that will be presented. Residents will be asked to vote on this at an upcoming special town meeting on April 15th.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation informed me that the milling and resurfacing project will begin on Route 156 in Old Lyme starting April 9th. The project consists of milling and resurfacing a 4.65-mile segment of Route 156 in Old Lyme. The milling segment for this project is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 through Tuesday, April 23. The resurfacing segment of this project is anticipated to be performed on Monday, April 29 through Wednesday, May 15. Public Works Director Ed Adanti, Resident State Trooper Matt Weber and I will be attending a project meeting in Norwich on April 3rd, where we will learn more about this project.

Town Hall will be busy next week as Early Voting for the Presidential Preference Primary will begin in Town Hall. This will take place on the mezzanine level. The hours of early voting are as follows:

    • March 26 – 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • March 27 – 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • March 28 – 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • March 30 – 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Please note that due to the use of the mezzanine level for Early Voting, many meetings will need to be held in other locations. Please check the website calendar and look for signage as you enter the building for your meetings.

On Wednesday evening, Town Hall had some very special visitors as Cub Scout Pack #27, led by Cubmaster Bradley Mock, and Girl Scout Troop #66394, led by Co-Leaders Anna Reiter and Kimberly Taliento, came for a visit. I had the honor to present them with a brief overview of town government followed by a tour of Town Hall. They were very impressed by the artwork in the mezzanine level meeting room, the vault in the Town Clerk's office, and the memorabilia on the lower level from the American Legion. Kim Groves, CZET in Land Use (Planning, Inland Wetlands) was kind enough to leave out the plans for the Mile Creek School renovations for the children to see. And as you can see by the photos, they loved the fire gear that Fire Marshal Dave Roberge proved as a treat for our special visitors. As a town we should be so pleased to know what wonderful young people we have.

Speaking of young people, what a week we have had in Region 18 with the boy's high school basketball team winning the state championship last Sunday and the high school Mock Trial Team repeating as state champs. As a town, we have so many things to be proud of.

For those of you who will be watching the NCAA playoffs this weekend – enjoy every game and GO HUSKIES!

All my best,
Martha
