The daffodils are blooming at Town Hall due to the beautiful weather we experienced on Thursday. It is encouraging to see those vibrant yellow buds outside our first-floor windows.

It came to our attention this week that the Rogers Lake Authority's update for the Events magazine was not published. We have placed their update on their webpage for you to read.

As many of you know we will be having our presidential preference primary on April 2nd. This will also be the first time Early Voting will take place. Vicki Urbowicz and the Town Clerk office staff have put a notice on our website’s front page which has pertinent voting information, including absentee ballots.

Suzanne Thompson, our Tax Collector, asked me to let you know that the outstanding tax bills for real estate property taxes (taxes due starting July 2023) have been mailed out. Payments not received at Town Hall or postmarked by March 31, 2024, will accrue another 1.5 percent monthly interest per state statute. You can search on the Tax Collector Department website page to check your tax payment status.

I recently attended the Old Lyme Visiting Nurse Association monthly meeting. The Board is always looking for people who want to assist in and promote health and wellness programs for our community. No medical experience is necessary to volunteer for this committee. Please call Cindi at 860-876-0456 if you are interested in volunteering for this worthwhile organization.

If you are driving down Ferry Road, you may notice that three large trees were taken down on Thursday. This is the first step in preparation for the Ferry Road Sidewalk project. The construction will not begin for a few more weeks but it was important to take the trees down before the leaves began to appear.

I want you to know that I appreciate your phone calls regarding ponding on roads and storm water drains that need to be cleared. We all must be aware that the water tables are quite high this year, so we are seeing more consistent wet areas after each rainstorm. Please call Town Hall 860-434-1605 x243 if you see an area that needs the attention of the Public Works Department.

I’d like to congratulate the Old Lyme Fire Department on their Eversource grant award in the amount of $1,500 to assist with the Swiftwater Rescue Water Training Resources. It was nice to be on hand with our Eversource Community Relations Specialist Teresa Jackman when she presented OLFD Chief of Department Stephen Super with the check. I’d also like to thank Lt. Jared Flagg for his role in making this a reality.

Many thanks and job well done to Animal Control's Kimberly Lambert-Hannett and Jenn Sadler, Animal Control Volunteer for capturing  a little missing dog, Felix. While in Old Lyme Felix jumped from a moving car and spent three nights outside roaming Old Lyme's woods before our Animal Control Team trapped him and reunited him with his family.

Saturday is going to be another nice day. It might be a great day to explore one of Old Lyme's beautiful Open Space trails. Enjoy!

All my best,
Martha
