Beach Water Results
There are NO swimming advisories or closures currently in effect at any LLHD-monitored beaches.
Ledge Light Health District conducted routine bathing water sampling on Monday, July 29, 2024. There were 17 areas that showed sample results exceeding the bacterial action levels set by the State of Connecticut. Swimming advisories were issued on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 for the following areas:
Old Lyme
- Roger's Lake (Hains Park)
- Hawk's Nest Beach
- Miami Beach
- Soundview Beach
- Old Colony Beach
- Old Lyme Shores
The above areas were all re-sampled, July 31, 2024. Results were within acceptable limits for all areas and the swimming advisories were lifted today, Thursday, August 1, 2024.
Please be aware that rain or other contamination events occurring before and during the Monday morning routine sampling likely contributed elevated bacterial counts in the water. Areas with stormwater runoff (storm drainpipes or extensive impervious surfaces), or low water turnover (inland bathing areas), are particularly vulnerable to increased bacterial counts following rainfall. We recommend all individuals responsible for the bathing areas take these events into consideration.
