One Town, One Book
Community Read Program

Summer 2013 marks the first ever OL-PGN sponsored One Town, One Book style reading event. The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver was selected for its timely issues of respect for the environment, adoption, and the plight of illegal immigrants.
Thanks to a $2,500 grant from the Connecticut Center for the Book at Connecticut Humanities, the OL-PGN Library will partner with the Town of Old Lyme, The Friends of the Library, the Old Lyme Historical Society, Federation of Beaches and the Lyme - Old Lyme School District.
Each program will be facilitated by Marsha Bansavage and accompanied by experts. All three programs will focus on the novelís most prominent themes while drawing on the protagonistís growing awareness of how all people are interrelated. Our goals are to bring full-time and seasonal residents together, offer a multigenerational discussion of current topics, promote reading and foster greater understanding.  For more information please visit the Library website.

These coordinated lectures take place on:
1. The Face of Adoption with Lynn Gabbard, MS, at OL-PGN
        Wednesday, July 10              6:30 PM

2. Immigration Stories with Nancy Harrington, Esq., at Shoreline Community Center, Soundview Beach
        Tuesday, July 16        6:30 PM

3. Native American Myths on Nature and Stewardship of the Land with Michael Caduto at Town Hall
        Tuesday, July 23        6:30 PM
